Noa's concert in Madrid (Spain)

MADRID The voice of motherhood

The Israeli singer Achinoam Nini took her artistic name from the Biblical
character Noa, the first feminist woman according to the Writings. With such a
tag, Noa, who is already well known, will perform tonight in the Palacio de
Congresos (Congress Palace) to present her disc Now. With it, she states "the
big challenge" of being a working mother.

This concert is a part of her tour in Spain. It started last Monday in Tenerife,
and will finish, after a break, in León on May 16. She says she feels "welcome"
here and appreciates the "true" reaction of the crowd. To provoke it, she will
sing themes from her previous discs, "some of them in Spanish, which she finds
wonderful" and songs from Now. With this disc, composed during her pregnancy and
her son’s first year of life, she pretends "to transmit strength and love to all
mothers".

Cultural mix.

She has been catalogued as a pioneer in world music genre. Since her
international appearance in 1994 with the album Noa, she has sung around a globe
in which cultures could co-exist in peace. About the current events she says
that she understands the war against Iraq "if all nations of the civilised world
decide to join together to eradicate the dictators". She explains that anyone
who relates this conflict to the one of Israelis and Palestinians is falling
"into a political manipulation"
