Almost twenty years after Rachel and Leah (1993), Achinoam Nini returns to the Israel Festival, together with her musical partner Gil Dor, in a premier performance marking the release of her exciting new album, based entirely on renditions of Israeli classics. The performance includes Bereshit, Yesh ey-sham, Makom le-de'aga, Zecharia Rachel, Hayu leilot and many other well-known titles.

The arranger and composer Ilan Mochiach is the musical director of the concert, which is accompanied by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.

Achinoam Nini, better known by her international stage name Noa, is one of the best-known Israeli singers in the world. Nini has collaborated and performed with leading names, including Sting, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Al Di Meola, Annie Lennox, Mercedes Sosa, and many others. She also gained fame when she performed before Pope John Paul II.

Achinoam Nini comments: "For many years, I only performed Israeli 'classics' very rarely. Now, after eight original albums and countless performances in Israel and around the world, I feel happy, confident, and ready to take on this new challenge. Gil Dor and I have chosen some of the beautiful and moving songs that have influenced us over the course of our own lives."

Israel : Noa & Mira to Moscow with Einaiych Israel have selected their entry for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest this evening during a special Kdam Eurovision show this evening. Noa & Mira Awad will go to Moscow with the song Einaiych (There Must Be Another Way). Back in January, Israeli broadcaster IBA announced the selection of world renowned Israeli singer Noa (Achinoam Nini), together with the Arab/Israeli artist Mira Awad as the duo who would represent Israel in this years contest in Moscow. This evening in Jerusalem, Noa & Mira Awad performed four songs in a live televised national selection called Kdam Eurovision 2009 hosted by Eden Harel. The show began by an introduction to the juries.In the week prior to the national selection, the public have been allowed to vote by SMS and internet for their favourite song. In this evenings show, the voting was mixed between SMS, Internet and jury votes. The songs were presented as follows :- Kol Shniya - (Second Chance) 32 points Na'amin Bachalom - (Faith in The Light) 72 points Bo'i Lirkod Iti - (Will You Dance With Me) 84 points Einaiych - (There Must Be Another Way) 112 points After the performances, Israeli president Shimon Peres addressed the viewers by saying that he appreciated the work that Noa and Mira Awad are doing for the people and for peace. He also paid tribute to Noa as being "The Voice of Israel". The public televoters preferred the song Bo'i Lirkod Ti as their favourite, but the jury preferred Einaiych and the combination of SMS, internet and jury votes are highlighted above. Israel finished in ninth place last in last years contest with Boaz Mauda and his song The Fire In Your Eyes. Noa and Mira Awad will participate in the First Semi-Final of this years Eurovision Song Contest on Tuesday May 12th in Moscow. Israel have won Europe's favourite TV show on no fewer than three occasions. Firstly Izhar Cohen and Alphabeta won in Paris in 1978 with the song A Ba Ni Bi. Israel then retained the title on home soil in Jerusalem in 1979 when Milk & Honey triumphed with Hallelujah. Almost two decades later, Dana International won the 1998 contest in Birmingham in a thrillingly close finish ahead of the United Kingdom and Malta with the song Diva.

Tonight at 20:45 CET, IBA will air the KDAM Eurovision 2009 national final. Four songs will be presented for the internally selected artists Noa (Achinoam Nini) and Mira Awad. The official Eurovision site of IBA will launch a live webstream at that time so we will all watch the show. They are going to sing 4 songs as follows: Kol Shniyah (Every Moment) – Second Chance Lehamin Bachalom (To believe in the dream) – Faith in your light Boi Lirkod iti (Come and Dance With Me)-Will you dance with me? Eineich (Your eyes) – There must be another way This is the first time that the songs will be sing in Hebrew, Arabic and English and that an Israeli Arab is going to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest. This evening, the Kdam Eurovision show will take place in Israel, where the chosen artists Noa and Mira Awad will perform four songs, one of which will go on to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow in May. After a few months of specualtion in Israel, it was announced back in January by the national broadcaster IBA that Noa and Mira Awad would represent their country in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Noa, (real name Achinoam Nini) is Israel's leading international concert and recording artist. She was born in Tel Aviv in 1969, but lived in New York City from the age of two. She returned to Israel alone at age 17 and studied music at the Rimon School where she met her long term writing partner Gil Dor. Noa has frequently collaborated with Arab and Palestinian artists from around the World in the past, and has also performed with leading artists such as Sting and Stevie Wonder. Mira Awad is a Palestinian/Israeli singer, songwriter and actress. She was born in 1975 and lives now in Tel Aviv. Mira also attended the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. In 2002 she worked with Noa on her album Now. She is in the final stages of recording her debut album. Mira Awad will be the first ever Arab/Israeli singer to represent Israel in Europe's favourite TV show. Four songs will compete in tonight's Kdam Eurovision programme and the format will be in the same tradition of the last years, where Noa & Mira Awad perform four songs to the public. All songs will be performed using a combination of three languages, these being Hebrew, Arabic and English.This year 60% from the votes will come from a specialised committee, and 40% from SMS and Internet. The chairperson of the professional committee will be Yoav Ginai, writer of the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest winner Diva and who also happens to be broadcaster IBA TV's Channel 1 Head of Entertainment. Presentati da Monica Leofreddi, sfileranno sul palcoscenico artisti italiani e internazionali, alcuni dei quali gia' presenti nelle passate edizioni del Concerto, altri alla loro prima presenza. La serata vedra', inoltre, la partecipazione straordinaria di Giancarlo Giannini che leggera' alcune riflessioni di Madre Teresa e di Martin Luther King. Tra gli habitue' del tradizionale appuntamento natalizio Noa, Dolores O'Riordan, Ronan Keating, Gigi D'Alessio, Nicky Nicolai e Stefano di Battista Quartet, Gigi Finizio, Helena Hellwig, Sara 6, il coro Summertime e i Petits Chanteurs de Monaco. Noa will sing "Ave Maria" on Friday night, on Rai Uno's special edition of "Porta a Porta". She will be the only artist on the show, which will air after the funeral of the Pope. There will be many distinguished guests from around the globe talking about the deceased Pope. "This is a great honor for me. There are so many great artists around the world, and to be chosen is fantastic. I will be there not only as a singer, but as a representative of the Jewish people and Israel, to pay repects to the man who respected the Jewish people. I feel it is a very heavy responsibility", she said in numerous interviews to newspapers from around the world held in the last 24 hours. The show is expected to be watched by millions. Noa's rendition of "Ave Maria" has been receiving heavy airplay since the death of the Pope.

first it was evident (not only for us ) that last Friday the beauty of Noa's voice and the magic of the song completely changed the atmosphere in the TV studio of Rai Uno. The debate was interesting for the personalities taking the part in the show, but only after Noa's music - and then Noa's speech - it changed into a debate with a high level of emotion.

We want to remember also two other beautiful moments: the Italian actress Pamela Villoresi said: Noa, i've listened to the cd with Ave Maria thousands of times; maybe you say that you're not a religious woman but you sing like an angel!

Then there were the congratulations to Noa by the journalists for being the first Israeli artist to perform with Palestinian and Islamic singers, representing a model of dialogue between the different cultures and religions.

Beautiful also Noa's words about the power of love and compassion. She told that the evening when the Pope died, she was in Italy for a concert; she knew that the Pope was not well, so wanted to dedicate Ave Maria to the Pope. While she was singing, she felt something strong inside, a tension she couldn't understand. At the end of the song someone went to the stage and gave the news of the death in that moment of the Pope. So she asked: how can it be? What can connect a Yemenite Jewish girl with Bach and Gounod and the Pope? This is something trascendental, the power of love, of compassion, of openmindness, of peace: Noa said to believe in this power strongly.

At the end of the show after a very long debate about the elections of the new Pope, talking about the age and other technical details, Noa expressed her hope, also as mother of two, that the next Pope could be a person who open mind and heart to all the peoples and work for peace with love: this is more important than any argument.

Sul palco star d'eccezione che hanno proposto duetti inediti e brani originali. Tre ore di splendida musica. Una scenografia molto originale. L'Aula Paolo VI è addobbata a festa, le luci e i colori si intrecciano. La sala è piena. C'è un unico messaggio, ripetuto da ciascun cantante: pace, a tutti e in tutto il mondo. E' questo l'augurio del natale 2004 e di un nuovo anno all'insegna della felicità, della pace, della speranza. Nel tradizionale concerto, che andrà in onda il 24 dicembre, alle 21.00 su Canale 5, e trasmesso da Rtl 102.5 oltre che con sistema wireless dai telefonini 3, sono stati molti i messaggi di pace e speranza richiamati da tutti gli artisti presenti: da Massimo Ranieri a Noa a Sergio Cammariere; tutti hanno comunicato con la loro musica questo augurio, accompagnati dal Maestro Renato Serio e dalla Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana. Ed il Concerto di Natale in Vaticano non è solo musica, ma anche solidarietà, speranza, unione di religioni, di colori, di razze. Proprio come il brano che ha introdotto la serata: “Happy Christmas (War is over)'' di John Lennon, cantata da tutti gli artisti proprio per comunicare quel desiderio di pace tra i popoli. A condurre la serata, come di consueto, la brava Cristina Parodi. Dopo il brano iniziale, a "rompere il ghiaccio" sul palcoscenico dell'Aula Paolo VI, è stato il napoletano Pino Daniele che si esibisce con parte della sua band, la "Ensemble". Al suo fianco ci sono Rossella Ruini e Fabrizio Palma, mentre l'orchestra è diretta dal maestro Gianluca Podio. L'artista partenopeo canta una versione melodica di "Quando", riarrangiata per un'occasione speciale. Una canzone a cui è molto legato - come lui stesso ha detto al termine dell'esibizione - dedicata ad un suo grande amico che non c'è più: Massimo Troisi. "Con questa canzone è un po' come se fosse qui con noi", ha aggiunto Pino Daniele. L’atmosfera cresce, il pubblico fa sentire il suo calore. In Aula ci sono quasi 7.000 persone, di queste (ci confessano dall’organizzazione) meno di tremila hanno comprato il biglietto. Ma comunque la dodicesima edizione del Concerto in Vaticano ha avuto successo, più dello scorso anno. A salire sul palco tocca a Massimo Ranieri, un altro napoletano doc. Suggestiva la sua interpretazione nell’edita versione di Magnificat, scritto da mons. Marco Frisina su testo tratto dal Vangelo secondo Luca. Ad interpretare il primo duetto della serata è proprio Massimo Ranieri che, insieme alla israeliana Noa, si esibisce con “Santa Lucia luntana”, un brano napoletano, cantato in un dialetto perfetto anche da Noa. Una canzone che parla della nostalgia e che richiama alla mente “i tanti migranti in giro per il mondo che non vanno dimenticati – sottolinea l’artista israeliana – occorre ricordare il sentimento di queste persone”. Quale è l’augurio di Noa per questo Natale? “Sono ebrea e il 25 dicembre per me non è una ricorrenza particolare. Ma ho un grande rispetto per questa serata e per voi. Nel mondo – ha aggiunto l’artista – ci sono diverse religione che devono convivere affinché a vincere sia la pace”. I due artisti sono in perfetta sintonia: ne esce un duetto eccezionale. o strepitoso duetto di Massimo Ranieri e l’israeliana Noa.
